Melting Point: >250°C dec. (Note: The melting point of gemcitabine base is 168.64°C, but the hydrochloride salt may have a different melting point.)
Specific Rotation: D +48°; 365 +257.9° (c = 1.0 in deuterated water)
Stability: It remains stable for 1 year from the date of purchase. Solutions in DMSO or distilled water can be stored at -20°C for up to 1 month.
Mechanism of Action:
Gemcitabine is a deoxycytidine analog that is activated within cells by nucleoside kinases to form gemcitabine diphosphate (dFdCDP) and gemcitabine triphosphate (dFdCTP).
dFdCDP inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis.
dFdCTP is incorporated into replicating DNA chains, terminating chain elongation and inducing cell apoptosis.
