Pharmacological Action
Drug Type: Sugammadex Sodium is a selective relaxant binding agent (SRBA).
Mechanism of Action:
Sugammadex works by encapsulating aminosteroid non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents such as rocuronium and vecuronium. This encapsulation process lead to the rapid termination of their neuromuscular blocking effects by decreasing the concentration of unbound muscle relaxants available to bind to nicotinic receptors at the neuromuscular junction. Sugammadex forms a tight complex with these agents, which allows for their fast removal from the system, reversing the neuromuscular blockade.
