Mechanism of Action

Pregabalin is a GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) analogue that binds to the α2-δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. Although it is a GABA analogue, it does not exert its therapeutic effects via GABAergic mechanisms. Instead, its primary action is to reduce the release of several neurotransmitters, including glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P, by modulating calcium channel function.
