Rupatadine Fumarate is a novel, potent anti-allergic agent with a broad therapeutic spectrum and favorable safety profile.
Basic Information
Chemical Name: 8-Chloro-6,11-dihydro-11-[1-[(5-methyl-3-pyridinyl)methyl]-4-piperidinyl]-5H-benzocycloheptene[1,2-b]pyridine fumarate
English Name: Rupatadine Fumarate
CAS Number: 182349-12-8
Molecular Formula: C30H30ClN3O4
Molecular Weight: 532.03
Pharmacological Action
Rupatadine Fumarate functions as a potent, new-generation tricyclic antihistamine with dual activity, antagonizing both histamine H1 receptors and PAF (platelet-activating factor) receptors. It selectively blocks H1 receptors with minimal effects on other neurotransmitters such as serotonin, acetylcholine, prostaglandin F2, and leukotriene D4. Additionally, it non-competitively binds to PAF receptors, inhibiting degranulation of sensitized cells.
Clinical Applications
Rupatadine Fumarate is primarily used in the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and other allergic disorders. Its advantages lie in the absence of cardiovascular toxicity, potential arrhythmogenic effects, and central sedative properties, making it a safe therapeutic option.
