Chemical Properties
Cefdinir is a third-generation, orally administered, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic with potent antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria.
It exhibits stability against hydrolysis by various β-lactamases and retains excellent antibacterial activity against β-lactamase-producing strains.
Pharmacological Effects
The primary mechanism of action of Cefdinir is to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial cell death.
It demonstrates strong antibacterial activity against a range of strains, including Staphylococcus species, Streptococcus species, Pneumococcus, Peptostreptococcus, Propionibacterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Proteus mirabilis, Providencia species, Haemophilus influenzae, and others.
