Molecular Weight: 541.56 (based on the common molecular formula)
Physical Properties
Appearance: Cefminox Sodium appears as a white or slightly yellowish crystalline powder, odorless or with a slight characteristic odor.
Solubility: It is freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol, and practically insoluble in ethanol or ether. A 5% aqueous solution has a pH value ranging from 4.5 to 6.0.
Pharmacological Effects
Antibacterial Spectrum: Cefminox Sodium exhibits a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with particularly strong activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae, Proteus species, and Bacteroides fragilis.
Mechanism of Action: Cefminox Sodium has a strong affinity for penicillin-binding proteins, the target site of β-lactam antibiotics. It inhibits cell wall biosynthesis and can bind to peptidoglycan, inhibiting its binding to lipoproteins and promoting bacteriolysis. Additionally, it can bind to the specific outer membrane lipoprotein diaminopimelic acid of Gram-negative bacteria, demonstrating a potent dual bactericidal effect within a short period.
