Pharmacological Action
Olopatadine Hydrochloride, the hydrochloride salt of Olopatadine, exhibits dual actions of inhibiting histamine release and selectively antagonizing H1 receptors. It stabilizes mast cells and prevents histamine release from these cells, while also blocking histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing histamine from binding to these receptors. Both actions prevent the effects of histamine on capillaries, bronchial smooth muscles, and gastrointestinal smooth muscles, including histamine-induced vasodilatation, increased capillary permeability, bronchoconstriction, and gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasms. Additionally, it prevents histamine-induced mucosal pain and itching.
Indications
Oral tablets are used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and skin diseases accompanied by pruritus (such as eczema, erythema multiforme, etc.).
Eye drops are used for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.
