Pharmacological Action

Promethazine Hydrochloride blocks H1 receptors in smooth muscles, capillary walls, and other tissues, competitively antagonizing the effects of histamine. It also exhibits significant central nervous system depressant effects, enhancing the actions of anesthetics, hypnotics, and analgesics, while reducing body temperature and controlling nausea and vomiting.

Indications

  1. Treatment of various allergic conditions (e.g., asthma, urticaria).

  2. Relief of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, seasickness, etc.

  3. Used in combination with aminophylline for the treatment of asthma.

  4. Constituent of winter sleep injection mixtures with drugs like pethidine for artificial hibernation.
