Mechanism of Action: Delamanid is a novel antitubercular drug that acts by inhibiting the synthesis of mycobacterial cell wall components, namely methoxy-mycolic and keto-mycolic acid. It specifically targets and blocks the enzyme involved in the synthesis of these critical components of the mycobacterial cell wall, leading to the death of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Antimicrobial Spectrum:
Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Delamanid is primarily effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including drug-resistant strains such as multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB. Delamanid has shown significant bactericidal activity against these resistant forms of tuberculosis.
