Iguratimod

Iguratimod

Iguratimod is a medication used for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Basic Information

  • English Name: Iguratimod

  • CAS Number: 123663-49-0

  • Molecular Formula: C17H14N2O6S

  • Molecular Weight: 374.37

Pharmacological Action

Iguratimod functions as an anti-rheumatic agent primarily through the following mechanisms:

  1. Inhibition of COX-2 Activity: Iguratimod effectively inhibits COX-2 activity with an IC50 value of 20 μM (7.7 μg/mL), while showing no effect on COX-1. This allows it to reduce inflammation and pain without the common gastrointestinal side effects associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

  2. Inhibition of MIF (Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor): Iguratimod is also an inhibitor of MIF with an IC50 value of 6.81 μM. By inhibiting MIF, it further mitigates inflammatory responses.

Indications and Dosage

  • Indications: Primarily indicated for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis, providing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and disease-modifying effects.
