Mechanism of Action: Linezolid exerts its antibacterial effects by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Specifically, it binds to the 23S rRNA of the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the formation of a functional 70S initiation complex, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis.
Antibacterial Spectrum: Linezolid is primarily effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including strains that are resistant to multiple drugs such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). Its activity against certain Gram-negative bacteria is relatively weak.
Indications: Linezolid is mainly used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacterial strains, including but not limited to:
Pulmonary tuberculosis
Pneumonia
Pulmonary infections
Urinary tract infections (such as those caused by Enterococci)
Other infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria and certain Gram-negative bacteria.
