Chemical Properties

• Telmisartan is a novel antihypertensive drug belonging to the class of specific angiotensin II receptor (AT1 subtype) antagonists. It is primarily used in the treatment of essential hypertension.

• By selectively antagonizing the physiological effects of angiotensin II, telmisartan relaxes vascular smooth muscle, inhibits aldosterone secretion, and reduces water and sodium retention, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Uses and Safety

• Telmisartan is used as a first-line antihypertensive agent in clinical practice. Its blood pressure-lowering effect is long-lasting, and it has no significant effect on heart rate.

• The side effects of telmisartan are relatively few, and blood pressure gradually returns to pretreatment levels after discontinuation, without rebound hypertension.

Storage Conditions

• Telmisartan should be stored in a cool, dry place (recommended temperature not exceeding 25°C) with the container tightly closed to prevent moisture absorption.
