Chemical Properties
Telmisartan is a novel antihypertensive drug belonging to the class of specific angiotensin II receptor (AT1 subtype) antagonists. It is primarily used in the treatment of essential hypertension.
By selectively antagonizing the physiological effects of angiotensin II, telmisartan relaxes vascular smooth muscle, inhibits aldosterone secretion, and reduces water and sodium retention, thereby lowering blood pressure.
Uses and Safety
Telmisartan is used as a first-line antihypertensive agent in clinical practice. Its blood pressure-lowering effect is long-lasting, and it has no significant effect on heart rate.
The side effects of telmisartan are relatively few, and blood pressure gradually returns to pretreatment levels after discontinuation, without rebound hypertension.
Storage Conditions
Telmisartan should be stored in a cool, dry place (recommended temperature not exceeding 25°C) with the container tightly closed to prevent moisture absorption.
