Bicalutamide, also known as Casodex or Cosudex, is a nonsteroidal androgen receptor antagonist and a pure antiandrogen medication.
Basic Information
English Name: Bicalutamide
Molecular Formula: C18H14F4N2O4S
Molecular Weight: 430.37
CAS Number: 90357-06-5
Pharmacological Action
Bicalutamide belongs to the class of nonsteroidal antiandrogens that do not possess other hormonal actions. It binds to androgen receptors, blocking the effective gene expression of androgens, thereby inhibiting androgenic stimulation and leading to the regression of prostate tumors. The mechanism of action also involves balancing histone acetylation/deacetylation, abolishing androgen-mediated expression.
Indications
Indications: Bicalutamide is indicated for use in combination with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogs or surgical orchidectomy for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
