Uses

Felodipine is a selective L-type Ca2+ channel blocker primarily used in the treatment of hypertension. It lowers systemic blood pressure and persistently dilates the afferent arterioles of the glomerulus, thereby increasing renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate, improving renal ischemia, and preventing structural and functional disorders of renal vessels and glomeruli. Additionally, Felodipine exhibits anti-atherosclerotic effects by improving vascular endothelial function.

Pharmacological Action and Mechanism

  • Blood Pressure Reduction: By inhibiting the influx of extracellular calcium into small artery smooth muscle cells, it selectively dilates small arteries without affecting veins, causing no orthostatic hypotension.

  • Renal Protection: It regulates the passage of macromolecules through the glomerular basement membrane, reduces metabolic activity in residual renal tissue, decreases free radical formation, and thereby protects the kidneys.

  • Anti-Atherosclerosis: It improves vascular endothelial function to achieve anti-atherosclerotic effects.

Precautions

  • Felodipine is a high-purity research reagent, not a raw material product. It is intended for use in scientific research experiments only and is strictly prohibited from use in clinical diagnosis.

  • When using Felodipine, comply with relevant laboratory safety regulations to ensure the safety of operators.
