Pharmaceutical and Biological Properties
Phosphate Binder: Sevelamer Carbonate is a non-absorbed phosphate binder used to treat hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis.
Mechanism of Action: It binds to phosphate in the gut, forming insoluble calcium phosphate complexes that are excreted in the feces, thereby reducing serum phosphate levels.
Additional Benefits: In addition to its phosphate-binding properties, Sevelamer Carbonate may also lower total cholesterol levels by binding to bile acids in the gut.
