III. Chemical Properties
Axitinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) with high specificity.
It disrupts tumor angiogenesis by inhibiting the activity of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and VEGFR-3), thereby inhibiting cancer progression.
IV. Pharmacological Action
Axitinib is primarily used to treat advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
By inhibiting multiple VEGFRs and other related kinases, it prevents the formation of tumor blood vessels, inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis.
Axitinib is also used to treat RCC patients who do not respond well to other therapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors or other TKIs.
