III. Chemical Properties
Chlorambucil is a nitrogen mustard derivative and acts as a bifunctional alkylating agent. It forms unstable ethylene imines, exerting its cytotoxic effects by interfering with DNA and RNA functions.
IV. Pharmacological Action
Chlorambucil is less toxic than any other nitrogen mustard drug at conventional doses.
It is sensitive to proliferating cells, especially those in the G1 and M phases, and is considered a non-cell-cycle-specific drug.
It has a selective inhibitory effect on lymphocytes.
