II. Pharmacological Effects

Palonosetron hydrochloride is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with either no or very low affinity for other receptors. It works by blocking 5-HT3 receptors, inhibiting the release of serotonin (5-HT) from enterochromaffin cells in the small intestine induced by chemotherapy drugs, thereby preventing and treating nausea and vomiting.
