Solubility: Insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, slightly soluble in methanol or ethyl acetate, freely soluble in glacial acetic acid
Pharmacological Actions
Carvedilol causes vasodilation through its α1 receptor blockade and non-selective β receptor blockade, reducing peripheral resistance and lowering blood pressure. The vasodilation is primarily due to the α1 receptor blockade, and some metabolites also have β receptor blockade effects, contributing to mild vasodilation.
Indications
Primarily used for the treatment of symptomatic heart failure.
Also used for primary hypertension, especially mild to moderate hypertension or hypertension associated with renal insufficiency or diabetes.
