Cephalexin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the first-generation cephalosporin class of drugs.
Basic Information
English Name: Cephalexin
CAS Number: 15686-71-2
Molecular Formula: C16H17N3O4S
Molecular Weight: 347.39
Mechanism of Action
Cephalexin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It demonstrates potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and also exhibits good activity against some Gram-negative bacteria. Since human cells do not possess cell walls, Cephalexin is relatively non-toxic to human cells.
Indications

Respiratory infections: such as acute tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
