Azithromycin, also known as erythromycin azithromycin, azithromycin erythromycin, and Zithromax, is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity and potent antibacterial effects.
I. Basic Information
Product Name: Azithromycin
CAS NO.: 83905-01-5
II. Pharmacological Action
Azithromycin exerts its antibacterial effects by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of sensitive microorganisms, thereby interfering with their protein synthesis. Its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of erythromycin, but its effects are stronger, especially against Haemophilus influenzae and streptococci, where its activity is four times stronger than erythromycin.
III. Indications
Azithromycin is primarily used to treat various infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including but not limited to:
Lower respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
Upper respiratory infections such as acute otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis
Skin and soft tissue infections
Sexually transmitted diseases caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Mycoplasma hominis
