Dutasteride is a crucial pharmaceutical product primarily used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and related male health issues.
Basic Information
English Name: Dutasteride
CAS Number: 164656-23-9
Molecular Formula: C27H30F6N2O2
Molecular Weight: 528.53
Pharmacological Action
Dutasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor that works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thereby reducing prostate tissue hyperplasia. DHT, a form of androgen, plays a significant role in prostate growth and development. By inhibiting both isoforms (type I and type II) of 5α-reductase, Dutasteride exhibits a more pronounced effect than drugs that inhibit only one isoform.
Indications
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Primarily used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, reducing prostate volume, improving urodynamic parameters, alleviating urinary symptoms, and enhancing patients' quality of life.
Male Pattern Hair Loss: Also indicated for the treatment of androgenic alopecia, seborrheic alopecia, and genetic hair loss (though strictly contraindicated for women and children).
