Tiotropium Bromide is a medication used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
I. Basic Information
English Name: Tiotropium Bromide
CAS Number: 136310-93-5
Molecular Formula: C19H22BrNO4S2
Molecular Weight: 472.416
II. Pharmacological Effects
Tiotropium Bromide is a quaternary ammonium derivative and a highly selective anticholinergic drug. It has equal affinity for M1 to M5 muscarinic receptors and shows high affinity for receptors in human airways. It dissociates slowly from muscarinic M1 and M3 receptors, providing long-lasting inhibition of cholinergic nerve-mediated bronchoconstriction. This drug exhibits bronchodilation effects that can last for more than 24 hours, making it a long-acting anticholinergic bronchodilator.
III. Indications and Dosage
Indications: Used for the prevention and treatment of COPD and asthma. It is not effective for acute asthma attacks.
