Pharmacological Actions

1.     Proton Pump Inhibition: Similar to ilaprazole, rabeprazole sodium is a proton pump inhibitor. It also inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, leading to reduced gastric acid production.

2.     GERD Treatment: Rabeprazole is widely used to treat GERD by lowering stomach acid levels, reducing symptoms like heartburn, and preventing damage to the esophagus.

3.     Peptic Ulcer Disease: It's effective in the management of peptic ulcers, promoting an environment conducive to ulcer healing by reducing gastric acidity.

4.     Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Rabeprazole is used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition characterized by excessive stomach acid production due to tumors (gastrinomas).

5.     H. pylori Eradication: Often used in combination therapies with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, contributing to the treatment of ulcers and other digestive issues caused by this bacterium.
