Pharmacological Actions

Drug Type: Fluvoxamine maleate is an antidepressant belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class.

Mechanism of Action:
Fluvoxamine selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) at the synaptic level, enhancing serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS). Unlike some other SSRIs, fluvoxamine has very weak effects on norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake.
