Pharmacological Action
Therapeutic Effects: Levetiracetam is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat epilepsy. It is effective in the management of partial-onset seizures, myoclonic seizures, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
Mechanism of Action: The exact mechanism of action of Levetiracetam is not fully understood. However, it is believed to exert its antiepileptic effects by binding to a synaptic vesicle protein called SV2A. This binding is thought to inhibit nerve conduction across synapses and thus stabilize neuronal activity. It may also have effects on ion channels and neurotransmitter release.
