Pharmacological Action

Tedizolid Phosphate is an antibiotic used primarily to treat acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI). It exerts its effects by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The primary mechanisms of action include:

  1. Ribosome Binding: Tedizolid phosphate is a prodrug that gets converted into its active form, Tedizolid, within the body. Tedizolid binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of proteins that are vital for bacterial growth and replication.

  2. Disruption of Protein Synthesis: By interfering with the translation process of mRNA into proteins, Tedizolid ultimately leads to the inability of bacteria to proliferate and sustain necessary functions, which results in bacterial death.
