Raloxifene Hydrochloride

Hydrochloride Raloxifene

Hydroxychloroquine hydrochloride is a medication with various clinical applications, primarily used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and as an adjunctive therapy for breast cancer.

Basic Information

  • English Name: Raloxifene Hydrochloride

  • Chemical Name: [6-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzo[b]thiophen-3-yl]-[4-[2-(1-piperidinyl)ethoxy]phenyl]methanone hydrochloride

  • Molecular Formula: C28H28ClNO4S

  • Molecular Weight: 510.05

  • CAS Registry Number: 82640-04-8

Clinical Applications

  1. Osteoporosis:

    • Postmenopausal women experience a decline in estrogen levels, leading to bone loss and the development of osteoporosis. Hydroxychloroquine hydrochloride, as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), promotes osteoblast proliferation and activation, increases bone density, and improves bone quality, thereby effectively preventing and treating postmenopausal osteoporosis.

    • By inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts and promoting bone remodeling, hydroxychloroquine hydrochloride reduces the risk of fractures, particularly vertebral fractures.

  2. Adjunctive Therapy for Breast Cancer:

    • Hydroxychloroquine hydrochloride exhibits anti-estrogenic effects, inhibiting estrogen synthesis and thereby suppressing the growth and spread of breast cancer cells. As such, it is often used as an adjunctive therapy for breast cancer in postmenopausal women to help manage the disease.
