Pharmacological Action
Posaconazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the triazole class. It exerts its antifungal activity by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which is crucial for maintaining the structural integrity and functionality of fungal cell membranes. By inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase, Posaconazole leads to the accumulation of 14α-methyl sterols, thereby blocking the synthesis of ergosterol. The extent of this inhibition is dependent on the sensitivity of the test strain and the dosage of Posaconazole.
